Ben by Elsie Russell
He took out a pile of shirts and began throwing them, one by one before us, shirts of sheer linen and thick silk and fine flannel which lost their folds as they fell and covered the table in many-colored disarray. While we admired he brought more and the soft rich heap mounted higher--shirts with stripes and scrolls and plaids in coral and apple-green and lavender and faint orange with monograms of Indian blue. Suddenly with a strained sound, Daisy bent her head into the shirts and began to cry stormily.
"They're such beautiful shirts," she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. "It makes me sad because I've never seen such--such beautiful shirts before."
--F. Scott Fitzgerald
Sometimes you need a shirt, too.

So here's the story behind this post:
I was looking for weird paintings for superblog, and this Elsie Russell ladies website came up, and this was one of her crazier pictures.
And I thought "You know what? He looks pretty romantically ready. But he needs a shirt."
And what has both those things but the Great Gatsby? Nothing, that's what.
I was freaking out because I couldn't remember where the passage was coming from - until I saw Daisy's name.
The painting seems reminiscent of "The Kramer".
Inspiring, really.
I'm kind of afraid to ask, but why did you feel compelled to put a picture of Dr. Ross on your blog?
What are you talking about? Dr. Ross would never let his hair get this long, or gray, much less pose shirtless!
Well he might pose shirtless. But with perfect hair!
Max, I think she is talking about the picture on the sidebar.
I know. But it's funny to think of Dr. Ross as this guy.
no, Max, that's just creepy. *shudder*
